What is ANACS?

ANACS was established in June 1972 as the authentication service of the American Numismatic Association. It expanded into third-party coin grading in March 1979, a response to the increase in counterfeit and altered coins in the numismatic marketplace. This shift was especially pertinent during the coin collecting boom of the 1960s, when counterfeiters commonly altered coins to increase their value. ANACS, originally part of the American Numismatic Association, was sold to the publisher of Coin World in 1989 and has since been resold, evolving into one of the major players in coin grading. Located in Englewood, Colorado, ANACS provides a range of services, including the grading of various coin types.

"My experience: I submitted 10 coins for grading and slabbing. When the coins came back, one appeared to have moisture inside the slab. I informed them, and they told me to send it back for correction. I HAD TO PAY (~$10) to send the coin back to them so they could FIX THEIR ERROR. When I got the coin back, the documentation admitted they made minor errors. I asked for a refund/credit for my PAYMENT to mail the coin back to them (Why should I have to pay so they can fix their mistake?). In my final communication with them, it was obvious they were not even reading my emails I will NOT be using their services again."
